Dr. Reza Akhtar attended Rutgers University for his undergraduate degree where he graduated with high honors as a Henry Rutgers Scholar. He completed his medical education at Tufts University School of Medicine. He went on to do his internship and residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City where he also served as Chief Resident and faculty teaching assistant. Dr. Akhtar continued his education at Mount Sinai Hospital by completing a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology where he was additionally elected to serve as Chief Fellow. During his fellowship, he further sub-specialized his training by completing certification in advanced endoscopic techniques including EUS, ERCP, cholangioscopy and stenting.
In addition to his practice responsibilities, Dr. Akhtar serves as the Director of Advanced Endoscopy for Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Dr. Akhtar is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association, New York Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopists and the American College of Physicians
