Dr. Tacopina was awarded a full athletic scholarship to play women’s basketball at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. She then went on to complete her medical education at St. George’s University School of Medicine. Dr Tacopina completed her Internal Medicine internship and residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center. She was chosen to be a Chief Medical Resident upon graduating from the training program. Dr. Tacopina then returned to her hometown of New York where she completed a three year fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, NY., an affiliate of the State University of New York Health Science Center (SUNY-Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn). She was elected to the role of Chief Fellow during her final year of training.
Prior to joining Shore Gastroenterology Associates, Dr. Tacopina was practicing in Toms River, NJ for 10 years. She is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA). Dr. Tacopina has presented several abstracts at national meetings. She is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology/Hepatology.
Dr. Tacopina has a special interest in GI women’s health issues, inflammatory bowel disease and esophageal disorders.
